A CUT ABOVE THE REST IN EVERY WAY

Monsoons, situated in busy Mitchell Street is well known as one of Darwin’s favourite party bars; however under head chef Mark Wixted it is also establishing itself as a well-respected restaurant.

I went along for lunch, to sample Mark’s creative Tapas menu – “Something to Share” and certainly wasn’t disappointed.

Italian meatballs ($10.00) (5pieces) Large, succulent homemade traditional Italian meatballs in a spicy, herbaceous tomato sauce, topped with parmesan cheese. Nonna couldn’t have made any better!

Coconut prawn shots ($12.00) (4pieces) Moist, fleshy prawns covered in light, crispy threads of coconut on top of shot glasses filled with a tangy, yet refreshing tropical chilli, pineapple salsa. Wow!

Monsoons’ Risotto Balls ($12.00) (6pieces) Light and crispy on the outside; with a rich and creamy risotto on the inside; together with the subtle flavours and textures of parmesan, mushrooms and bacon. Served with a delicious aioli dipping sauce. Again Nonna would have been very pleased.

Monsoons’ Fishcakes ($12.00) (5pieces) Lightly crumbed with sesame seeds, these aromatic fishcakes with chilli, coriander and lemongrass were still balanced in both flavour and texture. Served with a sweet dipping sauce.

Goat cheese Bruschetta ($12.00) (3pieces) A superb bruschetta! Roasted Mediterranean vegetables topped with pieces of subtly flavoured goat cheese and finished with a wonderful sundried tomato pesto. For such a small dish, the flavours married together perfectly. A must try!

These are just 5 of the 8 tapas – “Something to Share” on Monsoons menu. Congratulations to head chef Mark Wixted, who by the way is Irish NOT Italian!
