Bombing of Darwin – Anniversary Day

A day of tremendous importance in the Australian calendar, February 19th marks the date that the Japanese Imperial Forces bombed Darwin and brought the Second World War to Australia’s front door. In Darwin, there is a service every February 19th, beginning at 9:30am.

At 9:58am, the Darwin air raid siren will sound, as it did in 1942 when the attacks occurred. Several current regiments based in Darwin will then perform a re-enactment of the attacks to show spectators what it would have been like to defend the city.
