It is no secret that Bakewell Primary Independent Public School is the leader in the education field, through innovation and strategic planning.

Not only being the largest primary school in the Northern Territory with over 870 students, but also proudly one of the few primary schools in Australia and the only one in the Northern Territory to incorporate the AVID program. AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination), is a program that provides students with academic, social and emotional skills that empower them to achieve lifelong success. By using these skills daily, students become successful learners who take responsibility for their own learning.

Whilst students have limitless opportunities for development, Bakewell Primary also recognises quality teaching makes a difference and the school have a mission to build and encourage teacher excellence through a range of common planning structures and professional learning. They have invested in coaching and mentoring to ensure that they build the capacity of all staff and develop effective and inspiring leaders. Currently on a quest to attract and retain high quality teachers, Bakewell pride themselves on their current expert and award winning teaching team. They regard high quality teachers to be fundamental for delivering ‘Excellence in Education’ in the Northern Territory.

With much on the horizon for Bakewell in 2018, and with the recent launch of a sponsorship initiative, ‘Friends of Bakewell’, there is now a strong offer for a range of opportunities and tiered packages for organisations and individuals to contribute to. The Bakewell School community look forward to expanding on this in 2018 and working with local businesses to enhance ongoing school programs, strategic initiatives and services.

With a strong grasp on how social media can benefit and enhance strong community engagement, Bakewell have launched their new Facebook page which shares updates of school events, good news stories and improves communication with the broader school community. Management of the social media platform will continue to be loyal with the school’s mission of being committed to delivering ‘Excellence in Education’, with a focus on positive relationships and high expectations whilst promoting a community that is respectful, professional, inclusive and safe.
